In October 2020 Griffith Regional Theatre is presenting the World Premiere of Sunshine Super Girl by Andrea James, the story of Wiradjuri sporting legend Evonne Goolagong-Cawley. As part of this historic event Griffith City Council and the Wiradjuri Community, with partners Burrundi Theatre for Performing Arts and Western Riverina Arts, are presenting the Yarruwala Wiradjuri Cultural Festival, to promote and celebrate Wiradjuri arts and culture across the region. The festival acknowledges and recognises the region’s Traditional Owners and brings the whole community together to learn about, experience and celebrate the living heritage and culture of its First Nations. The festival showcases Indigenous artists, creatives and cultural leaders from across the region, in a diverse program of performances, exhibitions, workshops and immersive cultural experiences.

The festival not only creates a space for Wiradjuri People to express and celebrate their own culture, but benefits the whole community by building awareness and respect for Wiradjuri culture and heritage, and positioning the region as a significant destination for cultural tourism.

The Yarruwala Wiradjuri Cultural Festival is presented by a consortium of organisations and cultural institutions in the Western Riverina. Individual events are curated and presented by the identified festival partners who are solely responsible for the operation, delivery and management of their events.
