Virtual Elders’ Lunch – Yarning Session

  • Virtual Elders’ Lunch – Yarning Session (map)

Jerilderie celebrates First Nations culture with a Virtual Elders’ Lunch – Yarning Session. This is based on the town’s successful Elders’ Lunch hosted by the lake in 2017 where people from North, South, East and West gathered for a day of storytelling, food and culture. Covid has changed our times. Deakin University’s National Indigenous Knowledges Education Research Innovation (NIKERI) Institute enables Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians the flexibility to access higher education while maintaining their family, work and community commitments. Part of its important work connects Community by listening to the wisdom of First Nations Elders. This is paramount to living and celebrating Culture and passing down to young people their own stories and sense of place by listening. In this presentation, Elders will come online and talk, inform, laugh and connect. The public are welcome to join and listen online. Coordinated by Roslyn Lockhart and hosted by NIKERI Institute.
